I make this great candied walnut recipe as a gift at Christmas time. It makes a great holiday nut treat for the candy dish. Walnuts have the added advantage of being very good for you too!

Ingredients

1 c white sugar
2 tbs brown sugar
1/2 c water
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp ginger
2 cups walnut halves

Place all ingredients except walnuts in a medium pan and bring to a boil, stirring frequently.

Put cold water in a cup and drip syrup into water. Once soft ball has formed in the water, the syrup is done.

Remove syrup from heat and stir in walnuts.

Lay out on wax paper to dry, separating walnuts from each other. Store candied walnuts in a container with a lid once they are dry.

Italian Sweet Bread Recipe

Dec-8-2008 By Joan

My family was Danish, not Italian, but we enjoyed this recipe for Sweet Italian Bread. It goes especially well with spaghetti or any Italian pasta recipe.

Ingredients for Sweet Italian Bread

1 c warm milk
1 lightly beaten eggs
2 Tbs butter, softened
1/4 c sugar
1 tsp salt
3 c flour
2 packages of yeast

Combine all ingredients and knead for about 10 minutes

Place dough in a medium bowl, cover with towel and place in warm place to rise for about 45 minutes.

After dough has risen, divide in half and shape each half into a ball. Flatten slightly.

Place bread dough into two 9 inch round baking pans. Let rise another 45 minutes.

Beat 1 egg and a little water. Brush this egg on top of risen dough.

Sprinkle with Italian seasoning.

This Italian Sweet Bread recipe can also be made in a bread machine. Just put all ingredients to the bread machine and put on white bread cycle.

Bake at 350 degrees for 20 to 25 minutes.
